Christmas project.

So, Davey still doesn't talk a lot. He's getting better and picking up new words all the time, but he's still significantly behind a lot of other kids his age. I've decided to wait until after his third birthday to contact our health visitor, in the hopes that the next few months will bring about that "language explosion" we've been waiting for for so long.

In the meantime, remember his catalogue obsession? It's still there. And it occurred to me the other day, while picking up the 834783 stray piece of ripped catalogue paper that day, that I should just make him his very own personalized book - one that CAN'T RIP.

I'm still unclear on that part of it, but I started the project yesterday. This is the first picture:

I learned to read by using phonics and I truly believe it has helped me tremendously where words and pronunciations are concerned. My goal is to have about 20 pages, front and back, of familiar images for him, accompanied by words and the phonetic pronunciation. I'm hoping that aside from enjoying the photos, he'll benefit from both seeing and hearing the words more carefully.

I'll probably be keeping track of my progress here, so watch this space!

That's sweet! Hopefully he'll blow you away with a pedantic little boy comeback "No, it's not a truck, it's Scoop the digger!"

Oh, that's a fabulous idea. Really, really great. You should make them and sell them on Etsy! TOTALLY! I so want one. xoxo

Have his hearing checked. He sounds a lot like Jonah and you know the issues we have had with him. He really took off once the tubes and tonsils got straightened out. It is amazing how much they start talking once they can hear and breathe, lol.

BTW, remember how Dakota was 18 months and still not walking and how freaked I was? Meanwhile, Davey was crawling and standing and taking off and Dakota was still dragging himself around on his belly like a wounded soldier, BUT saying full sentences! These kiddos do things when they're damn well good and ready. And Davey is probably storing up all that he's hearing and one day he's going to bust out with, "Mother, would you please pass the butter?" ;-)

(I do agree that getting a hearing test is a good idea, too).

Yve, I thought about using the right term, but it's baby steps at this point, heh.

Jenn, I didn't even think of that! That may be an idea.....

Stella, I don't *think* it's a hearing problem, but I will get it checked out, just in case.

Jenn again, LOL! I'm not really worried about it just now. That's why I said we'd decided to wait til after his 3rd birthday. But it can be frustrating for both him and us!

great idea.

you can find places online that print straight to durable vinyl or cloth... then just hole punch the prints and join them with some funky intertwining shoelaces or something?

lol at "no, it's not a truck, it's Scoop the digger!"
